I love the beginning of the month! It’s when all the green beauty boxes show up, and it’s like a holiday. By now you probably realize that I have a slight green beauty box addiction; The Boxwalla Beauty Box, Beauty Heroes, and Art of Organics are all faves; but today I want to introduce you to a company that I haven’t talked about on the blog yet. The Detox Market, one of my fave Los Angeles clean beauty stores, has their own clean beauty subscription box called The Detox Box and it’s a good one. Today I’m talking about the June Detox Box featuring Province Apothecary.
I reached out to The Detox Market, and they graciously sent me the June box to review. I love working with brands in this capacity because it means they sent me the box a few weeks early so that I can really play around with the products and give you the low down. As always, all opinions are my own.
The Detox Market
When I lived in Los Angeles, I loved to pop into the Santa Monica storefront. I lived just a stone’s throw away, and it is a gorgeous space. Last year when my family moved to D.C., I was sad to say goodbye. Even though I no longer have the luxury of popping into the store I have continued to order through the online shop because it’s a superb resource. What I love most about The Detox Market (TDM) is their passion for educating and serving their community. One of my core value statements is that I believe in the power of information and community; which makes TDM a no-brainer when it comes to where I choose to spend my money. They also have pretty high standards for what products they sell in their marketplace; you can find their ingredient standards here.
What is the Detox Box?
Each month TDM sends out a box featuring one or more green beauty products from their selected brand of the month. The value is always at least $90 with free shipping, and you earn detox points which you can use towards purchases in the online shop. As a side note, you earn detox points when you do things like create an account, make a purchase, and write a review via email (sent after select purchases) and then you can redeem those points for dollar-dollar-bills, ya’ll. I currently have 2,000 points that I’m about to redeem for $20 off some of my fave essentials.
The Detox Box is a $49.95 monthly subscription which you can cancel at any time. If you want to save a few coins, you can sign up for a 3-month or 6-month prepaid subscription. The 6-month option saves you $10/mo and is totally worth it. Some past boxes have included Dr. Alkaitis ($143 value!!), Skin Owl ($115), OSEA ($160), and One Love Organics ($133). You guys, the value of these boxes is ridiculous. I’ve even been known to subscribe (then cancel) just to add a one-off box to my collection; in fact, that’s what I did with the May One Love Organics box because I had been dying to try their vitamin C line. I just couldn’t pass on the massive discount.

June Detox Box x Province Apothecary
One of the things I love about subscription boxes is that you don’t just get an opportunity to discover great products, but you get the opportunity to find great brands, too. Every subscription is different but The Detox Market is particularly good at introducing you the people behind the product. This month we get to Meet the Maker of Province Apothecary, Julie Clark. Province Apothecary was created out of Julie’s desire to create non-toxic, healing beauty using local, wildcrafted, and sustainable ingredients. After dealing with skin sensitivities and eczema, she left her career in fashion and did just that.
Province Apothecary is also a unique brand in that it truly believes in skin care education. In fact, workshops and events are a huge part of the brand. Recently they had a Radiant Skin Masterclass that I was supposed to attend. But alas, my husband’s plane didn’t land in time for the kid handoff, and I wasn’t able to attend. I was bummed guys, it was going to be one of my first events in the green beauty space since moving to D.C., and I was stoked to learn about this brand that had just gotten on my radar. It was serendipitous that I opened my Detox Box the next day to find it included several all-stars from the very same brand. If you’re interested in mixing your self-care with skincare education, be sure to check their website for upcoming events, workshops, and informative blog posts.
The Gangs all Here
This month TDM is serving up two full-size goodies and two perfect companions, a $133 value for only $49, and I’m feeling it. They’ve included an oil cleanser, balancing toner, spot treatment, and eczema balm. A lineup of products that is strong enough to deal with “problematic” skin, but gentle enough to nourish all skin types. This lineup is truly multi-tasking. Let me tell you all about them.
Moisturizing Cleanser + Makeup Remover
This Moisturizing Cleanser + Makeup Remover is great for all skin types. This cleanser is a powerhouse of essential oils and removes makeup like a pro. The Avocado Oil is so nourishing, and the Raspberry Oil stimulates cell turnover, rejuvenating skin. Bergamot Oil clears congestion and Frankincense tones the skin. Lavender heals blemishes and works as a restorative, not to mention contributes to the calming aromatherapy vibe. I’m digging it.
Massage this on to dry skin and remove with a warm damp cloth. I really liked this oil cleanser but would probably reserve it for when I’m wearing a full face of makeup or after a day of heavy grime buildup- think yard work day or a day of heavy sweat and sunscreen buildup. This is just a personal preference as I always have more than one oil cleanser on hand. If you’re only going to buy one cleanser and you happen to be acne prone or have sensitive skin, this one is for you.
Invigorating + Balancing Toner
The Invigorating + Balancing Toner with Rose & Geranium is great for all skin types and is excellent at balancing and restoring skin to its proper pH. Made with organic rose water and geranium essential oil, this toner will soothe inflamed skin and is refreshing AF. If you ask me, the downplayed star player is actually the colloidal silver. Colloidal silver has a myriad of benefits, but if you have troubled skin, it is best for bacterial and yeast infections. Bacteria cause breakouts; this stuff will stop them in their tracks.
Pro-tip: If you suffer from dandruff or a dry + an irritated scalp colloidal silver can be a game changer. I’ve transferred some of this toner to an amber dropper bottle and love to put a few drops on my scalp and massage after washing.
Clear Skin Advanced Spot Treatment
This Clear Skin Advanced Spot Treatment is also a gem. Made with Turmeric and Calendula, it treats acne-prone skin without harsh, drying or irritating ingredients. Turmeric is a powerful anti-inflammatory and calendula helps heal chapping and cracking associated with cystic acne and active breakouts. If you’re acne prone, you can put a drop or two on your entire face at night. If you only have a spot here or there, just a tiny dab on the spot will zap a pimple fast.
I had a tiny blemish on my forehead, and I put the teeniest drop of this spot treatment on before bed and woke up the next morning with it completely gone. 🙌🏽
Healing Eczema Balm
The Healing Eczema Balm is a cult-favorite in the green beauty space. Zinc and Calendula soothe and treat dry, cracked, and itchy skin. I can attest that it works wonders on heat rash and I’m glad to have it on hand for summer hikes. Calendula oil calms inflamed skin, and Rosehip oil stimulates cell regeneration and reduces the appearance of scars. Hemp oil deeply hydrates and softens, and Zinc restores damaged tissue and reduces irritation. And Turmeric does all the damn things, to include relieving itchiness and swelling. Holler!
Of particular note is this is gentle enough to use on babies! So if you’re a mama with a baby suffering for eczema add this to your diaper bag stat!
Need this in your life?
