A summer in Hangzhou – June Boxwalla feat 5Yina

Summa Summa Summa time! I cannot believe it’s almost June. I mean, time is flying and I think I probably need to check back in with those 2019 Resolutions because if I blink, the year might be over. Yikes! But first, Summer. The sun is shining; the grill is out of storage and, as always, the Boxwalla Beauty Box never disappoints. The June Beauty Box spotlights the LUCENT line, by the lovely 5Yina, which was inspired by the summers spent in the lush, subtropical area of Hangzhou, China. This collection uses a selection of clarifying and balancing Chinese Medicinal plants to keep your complexion fresh, clear, and dewy all summer long.

Bi-monthly Boxwalla delivers some of the best of the best in clean beauty at a steal — this month is no different. This box, which features two full-sized products, is valued at $190 and only costs $49.95 with no commitment (cancel anytime).

5Yina

June Boxwalla x 5yina- Duo Flatlay- Felixinsideout

5Yina is a brand I’ve admired for several months. The co-founders Angela Chau and Ervina Wu are trained in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), and they use that knowledge to formulate the most luxurious, seasonal skincare which effectively merges traditional wisdom and modern alchemy. The skincare line utilizes potent adaptogenic botanicals to improve your skin’s resilience against modern environmental stressors and pollution. It’s not often, even in clean beauty, to find a line that is so in tune with what the skin needs every season. I love that 5YINA; which is an amalgamation of the five elements/natural laws, and YINA (Yi= Harmony, NA=Beauty); truly goes beyond skincare. The formulations are unique, holistic, and most importantly, effective. I have to say, after trying several products from the brand — I am a fan!

Five Seasons –> Five Elements

5Yina does seasonal skincare, unlike any other brand I’ve tried. The lines are: Enlighten (Spring), Grace (Autumn), Quiescent (Winter), Divine (the 5th Season, or the transitions between), and LUCENT (summer), which you can experience with the June Boxwalla Experience.

Here’s what you can expect from LUCENT:

Summer belongs to the fire element.  Spring signals the beginning of growth, while summer brings this growth to maturity.  Fire represents a radiant life-sustaining energy. When our fire is balanced, we feel a warm and joyous energy during summer.   Excessive heat can manifest as congestion and inflammation.  The goal for summer is to purify, balance, and clarify the skin and senses.

Lucent Hydrolat

The Lucent Summer Hydrolat (50ml, $45) is beautiful. This superfine mist hydrates and is anti-inflammatory and antioxidant-rich. The aloe vera base and distillates of cucumber, Helichrysum, peppermint, Honeysuckle, & Witch Hazel help refine the surface of the skin while keeping it clear of acne-causing bacteria.  You’ll also find ginseng and green tea, which aid in reducing inflammation and boosting cellular immunity.

My fave ingredient in this formula? The snow mushroom — she’s a beauty that acts like hyaluronic acid, drawing moisture in, but because of its small particle size, it penetrates more easily. We all know how I feel about mushrooms and adaptogens in general, and 5Yina uses both in good measure.

The mist is beautiful and soothing, and I’ve been using it between every step of my skincare routine; because let’s face it, I have a mist problem.

Lucent Beauty Oil

June Boxwalla x 5yina- Lucent Summer Beauty Oil- Felixinsideout

The Lucent Beauty Oil (30ml, $145) is a dream. Camellia Seed Oil and lotus leaf and flower purify and decongest the skin, while perilla seed oil helps with inflammation & packs a serious anti-microbial punch (bye summer breakouts!). Schisandra Berries (which can also be found in other 5YINA products) are a powerful adaptogen which helps heal & strengthen your skin’s protective barrier. But perhaps the most interesting ingredient is the Mai Men Dong,  which is a nourishing Yin herb – rich in saponins, polysaccharides, and flavonoids.

The texture is silky, the scent is light and very faintly herbaceous, and the finish leaves a light satiny glow. For those wondering, it doesn’t leave the skin oily, not even a little bit — just plump juicy skin!

Basically, it’s your skin’s best friend this summer.

If your skin tends to be a bit drier, this oil layers beautifully under a cream — I’ve also just layered it twice and find that works perfectly. Cleanse, mist, a serum of choice, mist again, oil; then I wait a few minutes and add another mist and drop or two of oil. Press each product in for best results.

New to the brand and wondering what else to try by 5YINA? Try these next 👇🏽:

  • DIVINE ALL SEASONS BIOCELLULOSE MASK –  I don’t know how they do it, but I have never used a sheet mask that left my skin visibly juicy and plump after ONE application. I’m not lying. This mask is packed with antioxidants, like beta carotene and vitamin C; infused with adaptogenic compounds derived from ginseng, Schisandra Berries, and Gogi to brighten the complexion and strengthen the skins protective barrier. I cannot recommend these bio-cellulose sheet masks enough! They are legit otherworldly.
  • GUIYING DÉCOLLETAGE TREATMENT – This is such a unique product, and I kinda love it – I mean, let’s be serious, we all forget our decolletage, and when we hit our 40s we all wish we hadn’t. This balm is formulated with Qi-moving TCM herbs like Cypress, Forsythia, and Vaccaria, which help with lymphatic drainage.  Shea + cupuacu butter improve the texture of your decolletage. Jackpot! Join team no-crepey skin.
