Clean Kids: Non-toxic bath + body products for children

Clean Kids Non-toxic bath + body products ALL-Felixinsideout

“What do you use on the babies?” or rather “What non-toxic bath + body products do you recommend for children?” This question just keeps coming up. I suppose a girl can rebrand, but never truly stop being a mommy-blogger. ๐Ÿคท๐Ÿฝโ€โ™€๏ธ That’s ok, though, because this stuff is important.

Our skin is our single largest organ and is responsible for protecting us from all sorts environmentalย pollutants and germs. But we have to help it do its job by not slathering it in toxic ingredients. This post has been a long time coming, and in truth, the main reason I’ve been dragging my feet is that it’s not sexy and new. You see, I didn’t have to transition my children’s products, because Iย never used the conventional stuff on them in the first place.

If you read my reason for transitioning to greenย beauty, you know that making better choices for them is what made me realize I wasn’t doing the same for myself. Classic mom move, taking care of everyone else first. But that’s life. So, let me give you the rundown on some of my fave, tried-and-true, non-toxic bath + body products for children.

FYI – This post is kinda long. But I wanted to have all the info in one place, so for ease of reference, you can jump directly to the sections.

Two Brands I Recommend 100%

I thought it might be easiest to organize this information in two ways. First, there are two brands that I have used interchangeably throughout the years, and I highly recommend them. Then I’ll give you the run down of my faves by the two brands.

Honest Company

The Honest Company bath + body product line is an oldie but a goodie. I started using Honest Co. Diapers + Wipes nearly five years ago. Over the years I have added more of their products into our regular rotation, and on the whole, I couldn’t recommend them more. I’ve used theirย diapers + wipes with two children, their training pants with my middle child, their prenatal vitamins and children’s vitamins, their bath and body products, and now use some of the makeup from the Honest Beauty line. I mean, this brand does it all.

Honest Co. is committed to creating safe, effective products with a side of social responsibility. When I lived in LA, I volunteered a lot and would often find myself side by side with my friends and neighbors who worked at the Honest Co. They do a lot of social outreach and have donated more than 16 MILLION diapers and personal care products since 2012.

Tubby Todd

When I lived in LA, I attended a lot of mommy blogger events. One of my fave events was one hosted by my friend and neighbor Rachel Pitzel, and at that event, I discovered Tubby Todd. If I’m honest, the packaging is what drew me in, but when I smelled the amazing lineup and then read the ingredients, it was love at first sight. I ended up buying a bundle that included their bubble bath, hair+body wash, and lotion for myself and their mama gift set for my pregnant sister-in-law. The mama gift set is an amazing present for any mama-to-be, and it has pretty much become my go-to gift for my pregnant friends. This set includes a freshening spray, nursing salve (currently out of stock), a hand cream, and a belly oil. So basically, everything you need.

In the years since discovering Tubby Todd, I have only grown to love the brand more. Not only are the ingredients stellar; free of toxins, gluten, parabens, sulfates, BPA, and artificial fragrance and color; but they offer limited-edition seasonal collections with scents that will knock your socks off. I seriously love this playful brand and always have it on hand.

Generally speaking, you can’t go wrong with anything from the above brands. You have my word. But if you want to know exactly what I use and how I’veย spelled it out below. Think of it as a mini-review for those who might be on the fence about which products to get from which brand. I’ve got you covered.

Looking for a rundown on my kids’ oral hygiene faves? I did a separate (and thorough) blog post HERE.

Bath

Bubble Bath:ย Don’t make me choose! I’ve alternated between the Honest Co bubble bath & Tubby Todd bubble bath for years. They are both clean, smell great, and sufficiently bubble up (is that a thing?). Lately, I’ve been on a Tubby Todd kick with the bubble bath for two reasons, 1) it’s in a scent that I’m obsessed with (yup, the Sweet Quince & Honeysuckle) and 2) I like that I have the option of a pump bottle and a small discount when bundled with the lotion & body wash. The Tubby Todd bubble bath is more expensive, but in my opinion, it’s more concentrated (and lasts longer) so the value is about the same.

Body Wash:ย Same. I like both. But pretty much any time Tubby Todd launches a limited edition collection I purchase that body wash. I love that they are little more decadent and feel special. Again, a little goes a long way. If I run out of Tubby Todd body wash and they haven’t launched a new limited edition collection, I tend to replenish with the Honest Co body wash. If I really love a limited edition scent, I tend to stock up, and then the babies smell like fall for a good 6 months. ๐Ÿ˜œ

Body

Tubby Todd Everyday Lotion: Guys. It’s thick, emollient, soothing, and smells DELICIOUS. I mean, if babies weren’t sweet enough, I just want to bury my nose into those fat rolls for hours after they’ve been lotioned up with this stuff. The standard scent isย Lavender & Rosemary, which is quite nice, but some of my favorite scents have been through the limited edition collections. To date, my very fave (and I stocked TF up) has been theย Honeysuckle & Quince lotion from Fall 2017. I’m down to the very last bit of my last bottle, and I might cry. But I’m not too sad, because Honeysuckle & Quince is the standard scent for their bubble bath; I just really love it in the lotion because it stays and stays and stays.

*FYI– The Honest Co. lotion is pretty good, but I like my lotion THICK, and despite using the Honest Co. lotion for years I was always searching for something with a betterย consistency. I still keep the Honest Co Face & Body lotion around, but unless I’m out of Tubby Todd lotion, I almost never reach for it. If you prefer a thinner, more lightweight option, Honest Co might be a better fit.

For Extra Dry Skin:ย If your kiddo is dealing with unusually dry skin (like during winter) or dry patches from scraped knees that are healing up, the Tubby Todd Dream Cream is fantastic. I mean, it’s EXTRA thick and is great for sealing in moisture. I used this throughout the winter for wind-chapped faces and hands.

Hands

Honest Co. Foaming Hand Soap:ย I like foaming soaps for the kid’s bathrooms because otherwise, they use 47 pumps of regular soap. Oh? You don’t have a toddler yet? Just wait. Anyway- foam is fun, and it looks voluminous and therefore convinces the tiny humans that one-pump is enough. I’ve used other natural “foaming soaps,” and while I like them just fine, I find that they leave a residue if not thoroughly rinsed off and my husband wasn’t a fan of how “oily” they left him feeling. Honest Co. leaves our hands squeaky clean (but not dry). We alternate between the Lavender Field and Coastal Surf scent, but for those with truly sensitive skin, they have a Fragrance-Free option.

Diapering

Honest Co. Diapers + Wipes: ย I use their bundle to save a few coins. They are cute, soft, and I’ve never had leak issues (with two kids). The wipes are my favorite; they are hella moist, strong, and absorbent. I mean, I’ve gotten through an entire poopy diaper with two wipes. Which means the pouch lasts forever.

Diaper Rash: The Honest Co. All-Purpose healing balm is actually my favorite for diaper rash. I’ve been so incredibly lucky/blessed– I’ve probably dealt with less than five diaper rashes worth mentioning in my entire 8.5+yrs of parenting. And when I see the signs of redness and irritation, I always reach for this balm. All redness is eradicated by the next morning. Every. Single. Time. I’ve literally never picked up another “diaper rash cream” since discovering this balm.ย Bonus: you can use this on skinned knees, chapped lips, dry elbows, you name it. Holler!

Refreshing

Admittedly most people aren’t looking for a refresher, you probably just wash your babies more. That ain’t me. Between three kids, nighttime crazies, and my general dislike of everyday washing, I like having a little something on hand to freshen up my kiddos.

The Honest Co Soothing Bottom Wash is my favorite for post poopy diapers. It’s soothing and gently cleanses the diaper area with aloe vera and witch hazel. It’s hypoallergenic, natural, and pH balanced, but it’s still best to avoid the inner labia (girl mama’s you know what’s up).

For general body refreshing, the Tubby Todd Baby Fresh Sprayย is my jam. It’s an all natural baby (and linen) spray and yup; it comes in my fave Tubby Todd scent, Sweet Quince & Honeysuckle. This spray also moisturizes, so I like to give my Ellie girl a little spritz in the morning after changing her and getting her ready for the day. Sometimes I spritz it in her and my pre-schoolers hair to give them a little curl refresh.

Fin!

And there you have it, all the non-toxic bath + body products for children you could ever need. And yes, I know there are plenty of other brands out there, and some I’ve tried and liked, but none so much as these. Let me know if you give them a try; I’d love to hear what you think.

Xo, Kimberly Fe'Lix
