Brands that Do More: Tiny Zen Jewelry

Hi Friends! Summer is chugging along over here, which is why things have been a bit sparse on the blog — I’m trying my hardest to walk the walk of being a more mindful and present mama, but with three kids I definitely have to make an effort to be consistent with my self-care. Typically, all I need are a few minutes to center myself, practice a little yoga and meditation to feel refreshed. And it’s totally worth it (just ask my husband and kids!). Today I want to talk to you about a beautiful jewelry company, Tiny Zen Jewelry, that has been an excellent accessoryย toย (and for) achieving this goal. It also happens to be the first brand I’m featuring as a part of my Brands that Do More series.

Brands that Do More

If you follow me on Instagram, you’ve been hearing me talk about this series for several weeks now. The Brands that Do Moreย series will be an ongoing project in which I feature brands that not only make stellar products but also go above being clean, nontoxic or eco-friendly. These brands also have a philanthropic component to their business model. I value philanthropy, and I have a whole hell of a lot of respect for brands that are willing to do more to make this world a better place by supporting organizations that do just that. If I could, I’d shop small/local always. But, the way my shopping habit is set up… ๐Ÿ˜œ. So, alas, I at least try to put my money behind businesses that put their money behind organizations that align with my ideals.

So now let me introduce you to Tiny Zen Jewelry.

As always, you know the deal: This post is a collaboration with Tiny Zen Jewelry. I reached out, and Kate graciously sent me these beautiful pieces, but all opinions are my own. Also, because sharing is caring, stick around to the end for a chance to win a super cool piece of jewelry for yourself.

Tiny Zen Jewelry

I discovered Tiny Zen Jewelry in February via the Well Summit Instagram page. I reached out to Kate, the owner, about the beautiful pieces and the idea to feature her band was born.

Kate, like me, is a multifaceted woman. Mother, wife, pharmacist, tobacco cessation educator, jewelry maker, and now a businesswoman, Kate takes inspiration from Mother Nature. The pieces are beautifully crafted, and each has its own meaning and power. When pregnant Kate felt connected to the positive energy from natural stones, and Tiny Zen Jewelry was born.

Kate has created something truly beautiful in her collection of handmade jewelry. Each piece is made with natural gemstones which were ethically harvested and fair trade. I selected three pieces to add to my collection, and I couldn’t be more happy with the quality. But more importantly, these pieces have quickly integrated into my self-care practice. I love love love each one.

Here are my picks.

Protection Minimal Lava Bracelet

This is the piece that caught my eye. I mean, how beautiful and dainty is this little bracelet? But the thing that got my attention was the use of lava. Lava beads are a natural stone that is porous and therefore are excellent as oil diffuser.

Yup, you heard me right… this lava braceletย ($34) (similar here) is a personal oil diffuser. Place 1-2 drops of your favorite essential oil, rub it, and enjoy aromatherapy all day. The bracelet came with a small vial of Lavender oil which is my absolute favorite essential oil scent.

Lava is also great for calming emotions. This gemstone’s properties are protection, strength, and fertility.

Positive Strength Mala Necklace

This positive strength mala necklaceย ($113) has been the most significant addition to my self-care practice. These days I’m not using the rosary much, and I was seeking something that would serve a similar purpose. I was seeking something that would be much less ‘Mother Mary’ and much more ‘spirituality meets prayer meets meditation.’ This necklace fits the bill perfectly. When I take my moments to meditate, pray, and speak to the universe (usually before or after yoga), the beads help me focus my energy.

All of the Mala necklaces are hand-knotted on silk cord. Black onyx, white jade, and white onyx (charm) have great healing properties. Onyx releases negative emotions and brings good fortune and personal strength. Jade is a symbol of serenity, and also increases love and nurturing. Perhaps most importantly, it blocks negativity. I’ve been connecting to this mala as those are all mantras that are a part of my meditation as I embark on all the avenues to maintain and support my mental health.

“Mama” Rose Gold Hand Stamped Necklace

Last, but never least, respecting my journey into motherhood is a huge part of my meditation and self-care practice. Counter-intuitive, I know. Much of my self-care revolves around taking a few moments to myself away from the all-consuming aspects of parenthood. But the fact of the matter is, I am a mama (x3), and the gentle reminder that I am all the better because of it helps me to stay in a place of gratitude and growth. I am different to my very core as a result of becoming a mother, so when I’m sending my intentions into the universe, I like to thank her for these three wildebeests.

Theย rose gold hand stamped bar necklaceย ($80) was just too cute to pass up. On trend, high quality, and dainty enough to be layered, it’s become one of my favorite accessories.

More than just beautiful jewelry

Now you see why this brand caught my eye. I have fallen in love with the pieces and hope to continue adding more to my collection. But what truly makes the brand stand out is it’s commitment to giving back. Tiny Zen Jewelry works with the non-profit One Tree Planted, a 501(c)3 organization that supports global reforestation efforts. For every Tiny Zen Jewelry purchase, they commit to a donation which plants one tree. How stellar is that?

A little about One Tree Planted

One Tree Planted was founded in 2014 and partners with carefully selected reforestation organizations in 4 regions: North America, Latin America, Africa, and Asia. When you donate to One Tree Planted, you can choose a project to donate to within each region โ€“ one dollar plants one tree. This philanthropic organization works with many companies who want creating a positive environmental impactย to be an integral part of their brand. One Tree Planted is also an excellent resource for individuals, schools, and businesses (and beyond).

Why it matters

The obvious answer is that trees are crucial to the very existence of life on Earth. They help clean the air we breathe, filter the water we drink and provide habitat to over 80% of the world’s biodiversity. But if you need more convincing about why reforestation is so integral to our existence, here are just a few scary facts that drive home the importance of organizations like One Tree Planted.

  • Every 2 secondsย man destroys an area of forest the size of a football field.
  • More than HALF the world’s timber and 72% of its paper are consumed by 22% of the World’s population (The U.S., Europe, and Japan).
  • 300 BILLION tons of carbon are stored in the Earth’s forests,ย which helps regulate its climate by regulating atmospheric gases, stabilizing rainfall, and protecting against desertification.
  • Due to deforestation 28,000 species are expected to become extinct by the next 25 years.

I don’t know about you but those are some pretty sobering numbers, and they don’t even scratch the surface. Value-driven purchasing isn’t going anywhere. I am happy to see more brands stepping up to the plate. It’s all well and good to consume and enjoy a product or brand, but brands that take responsibility for improving the world we live in, they’ll always get extra love from me.

Final Thoughts

I’m excited to continue this conversation and introduce you to more brands that are taking up the mantle of philanthropy. What brands do you love that are doing great things to help their community or the planet at large? I’d love to know, leave em in the comments.

These are beautiful! I LOVE when local businesses do more to give back. For instance, one local business gave out little trees to plant with each purchase!
